Agatha dear as always its super narration which should go to finest post. Congrats fir being nominated. When i read i wanted to nominate but I read from my mobile and did not know how to copy paste from the mobile

Ihave also gone through the girl seeing ceremony. Those days girls had no choice but to marry the groom chosen by the parents. Finally my husband came to see me with his sisters and brother. My husband told. His mother I am thin for which she told i will be ok after marriage. I was recommended by. Another guy whocame to see me, he. Did not marry. As he was. Shorter. Than me. My brother's choice. Was the right choice. I was not only married to my husband but To a big family and had to adjust with each and everyone. Since everyone was caring and loving though some problems were there I can say I could win their hearts. I always see the positive side of my husband and His helping nature and simplicity so I could adjust till today and lead a peaceful life

    Dear Viji,

It is nice to hear from you, that you adjusted very well with your extended family, while many others in your place would have tried to extricate themselves away. Destiny plays an active role in arranged marriages and even in marriages where the horoscopes match perfectly, the couple have to face many problems in life and end up fighting throughout their married life. A happy marriage is one, where the husband empathises with his wife, can understand her emotions well and always be there to give a helping hand! Thanks Viji, for your lovely FB.

    Dear Kamalji,

I am sure film producer and director Manmohan Desai would have produced great tear jerkers, far better than mine. Honestly speaking, the past doesn't hurt me anymore, now that I view things candidly!
What happened to your light hearted writings! Not visible in the forum of late ! Hope your health is ok!

    Hi @Agatha83
It was like reading a Sivasankari novel where she describes a typical "penn paarkum padalam". Very beautifully written and kept me hooked from the first sentence.
Also it brought back memories of my own experience.

I went through the same feelings as you did in the quote above.

    Dear kkrish,

Looks like there is a serious fan of Shivashankari novels here in IL forum. I wouldn't have come out with a tear jerker, if only the ' pen Parkum Padalam ' had just stopped with one. Like in the ' manal kayiru ', movie where SVShekar starts his girl seeing ritual along with his sister Manorama with a plate full of bananas and ends up with just 2 in it, due the potential brides families unable to come to terms with his absurd conditions.
When I saw many of my batch mates pursuing interesting courses in bio technology, bio chemistry, I was literally screaming in jealousy 'aiyo aiyo'!!

Very well written ! I am sure even today this scenario happening is quite possible. I come from a small town where even now these strictly formal bride seeing happens . It's cringeworthy .

    Dear Agatha,

What a delightful read. I was so drawn into your description that I could literally visualize the entire scene after scene the way you described, leaving me wondering about you looked back then. It indeed was a process and my mom always said she married my dad because he owned a bicycle! and we do have a couple of pictures on my mom just the way you describe - in black and white! Yet through the lovely narration, one can see through what the girl has to go through. You do such justice. I am only glad and hopeful that things are changing.

Loved your narration so very much.

    Dear Shreema86,

When I thought things have changed for the better for potential brides in the matrimonial market, it is sad to hear from you that such humiliating practices still exist. I know how difficult it is to revolt against such unhealthy practices!
