Those Were The Days, My Friend!

Dear Cheeniya sir,
No mistakes, perfect, Cheeniya sir. you are looking at the keyboard from a different angle.That's all We do mistakes but not you. Don't give up the fight. We are glad that you are with us because of not giving up fight.
I do not know the era of trams. Seen hand pulled rikshas in Kolkata when we went a few years back but dare not go in it. I feel sad for the rikha pullers. I know the era of cycle rikshas . Not bad they are.
My earliest memories go to family sitting together and eating meals, my dad talking about his childhood days, our summer vacation visits to grandparents' place travelling from Delhi to Vijayawada. Two nights and one day. We four kids used to immensely enjoy especially when the train goes through tunnels in Vindhya mountain range. I travelled many times later but those were best.
Whenever our favourite teacher leaves the school for some reason we used to cry and cry.
You mentioned in one of the feedbacks that you are getting your memory back, but to me it is perfect. Remember things happened six decades before with all the finer details! Your memory is intact. Forgetting the names can happen to anyone at any age.
Those days were calm, peaceful, no tensions. Every neighbour is something like a family. No need of formally informing them of our visit.

So nice to read your memories. You do know that sharing all this, you are taking us back to our own memories. Your rickshaw puller story reminds me of a regular rickshaw guy we had who would take us from home to our school bus stop, yes you heard it right and every morning I had to give 25paisa as boni! You know as I write about him, I am reminded that his name was Hanumanthu, and now after all these years Hanuman is playing a big role for me that guy though was really a good man. Told ya....you are taking me down the memory lane as well.

Coming to trams, we are going back. To help ease traffic our downtown has a new tram system and we are loving it. Why do I feel that perhaps all compunders renamed themselves as ranga raos!!!

Vyjayanthimala! I haven't watched any of her Tamil movies but had met her one time when I visited Chennai in my younger days and have pictures with her

You not only brought me nostalgic memories of my childhood but your snippet made me break my silence here ... What a walk down the memory lane. You took us through Trams big street Parthasarathy temple. I was waiting to see the mention of Ratna Cafe and so many little little places.

Even now this is the only place in my hometown where I could walk without getting lost. Home Sweet Home to which I will never return

 

I put in a word for the Ratna Cafe in #8. There have been lots of writeups about the "hotel" (restaurant) in magazines. There are even recipes on the internet, that attempt to reproduce their sambhar at home.
A few years ago, I went walkabouts in Triplicane, and found pycrofts road side walks completely occupied by the overhangs of sale items from the shops. Tough to walk there these days.

Sir, great to read a post from you. Prayers for your speedy recovery. Thanks for taking us back to our childhood. I have never visited chennai. Hope I get a chance to visit it someday. I grew up in Mumbai and have heard stories about trams from my Dad.

Glad to know that you are also Vaijantimala's fan. I liked her acting. Have watched a few movie of hers but probably not repeated them. With the number of movies released these days, it is difficult to watch a movie even once, let alone multiple times.
