Where do you guys place the IP in your kitchen?

When saute'ing the onions, tomato etc, it needs a kitchen exhaust kind of thing on top of it. Mine is near the window on the counter, and I am raising the window covering before cooking for now. DH thought I am showing off my IP to the neighbors.

My kitchen counter is small. Now my ip, vitamix and rice cooker goes under the cabinet next to the stover top, where the plug is. Each time they are pulled out towards sink , where there is no cabinet on the top and pushed
    Back after the use.

Have I had enough space I would love to keep all these inside the cabinets leaving the counter space open.

I began throwing away the water after I read this in more than one source.
“The soaking process breaks down the oligosaccharides, the indigestible sugars in beans that cause gas. Draining the soaking liquids would reduce the indigestible sugars."
Not sure if it is true, just that I sleep better (pun intended) :)

I read somewhere that beans cooked in the soaked water yields thicker sauce.

So not sure which is the better evil.

I've placed mine next to the stove and the exhaust above the stove range helps. Only my counter space is getting smaller. I need to rearrange my kitchen workspace, again. Will do it after the holidays.

:). you may also be inviting your neighbors for some good food with all that delicious aroma floating in the air.

    Pav Bhaji --

    Ingredients:
Onion chopped, tomato puree (puree equal to 2/3 of onion amount), ginger-garlic paste, MTR pav bhaji powder, butter, oil, cumin seeds (jeera)
Vegetables - any of your choice. Can use frozen veges. I used potato, cauli, beans, peas, carrot (in equal amounts, I chop them finely though not needed)

    Method:
Turn on the IP in saute mode, add oil, add cumin
Add chopped onion, fry for a bit (no need to make it golden brown).
Add ginger-garlic paste, stir for a minute.
Add tomato puree, stir a few times, add salt, turmeric

Add the chopped vegetables, add pav bhaji powder one tsp at a time, stir when adding the powder.
Add 1 cup water (about 240 ml).
Switch IP mode to manual for 40 min.

Mash the vegetables. Might have to saute a bit with lid open to reduce water.
    Add butter.

Note: I cooked with two cups water, and it was too much, but I was afraid it'd burn and darken the IP's pot. Not sure if I'll have the courage to ever cook with 1 cup, but that is plenty as mentioned in the youtube recipe I followed. Also, the gal in the video, put all the ingredients (onion, tomato puree, all veges, powders) into the pot in one shot. The end result looked good. She tasted it and said yum in the video. I would never cook raw onion like that for any dish. But her way definitely cuts down time even more.

Given that this magical thing doesn't clean itself, I found that I needed some help on how to clean the lid in particular. Fast forward these two videos to the parts where the ladies (why do they have to talk so much!) are cleaning the lid and showing how to remove its small parts for washing and cleaning.

One useful suggestion was to store the IP with lid upside down and allowing some air to go inside. After ten days of not using the IP, I get why they suggest that.

My IP went with me for vacation in checked baggage and it got a huge dent on the stainless steel body. I thought I had it adequately cocooned amidst a bunch of towels and clothes. It was still working though. I had taken the IP and one small regular pressure cooker with me.

On the way back, I packed my IP with even more padding and hence did not have space for the regular pressure cooker and kept it in carry on. It got thrown away at security :'(

I had to then take the unit apart to straighten the dent from inside. So while there is no dent, it still looks a little beat up :'(

I am the opposite! Wish I had more counter space so the IP can be left out without hogging the overall counter space. I have enough cabinet space to fit even 3 IP's (!) but if it goes inside it'll get used less often. So I just leave it out. Moved the dish draining stand at an odd angle to the sink to make space for the IP.

    Drishti dosha, IMO. ; )

Hmm... if it just got thrown away you got off easy..... in these times, pressure cooker in carry on can cause unthinkable hassles if the security person decides....

camelcamelcamel.com can tell you when amazon next has sale on it.......
