    Hi,

Off late, I have been hearing a lot about the hazardous effects of plastic that we are using (plastic water bottle, plastic dinner set, Tupperware storage containers etc.)
I have been thinking of throwing away all this plastic. However, are bone-china/cermaic/glass utensils safe? As I'm not very fond of steel dinner utensils?

Almost all my storage containers are now glass ....very few steel.
    I find these the safest.

For plates...we use steel ones for normal use and bone china otherwise.

Cups...bone china or glass, the transparent kinds.

I have copper and brass utensils too...from mom and ils,but I no longer use them too.
My mil had given me a copper pot to keep water over night and make hubby drink in the morning.....the water had turned bluish.I never used it.What worked in old days does not necessarily work today. The water has changed. So all brass and copper stuff is for decoration and growing plants.

Beyond not buying cheap plastic boxes, and not heating food to high heat in plastic boxes, I don't think much about this. And water-bottles, the ones we get as promotion items - go straight to recycle.

Bone-china and glass utensils are really safe and also microwave safe, the plastic microwavable utensils release release toxins into food microwaved in it.

just stumbled upon this thread..although dormant for a couple of months now, wanted to add my view.

I feel Glass ware (Opal ware) plates and bowls safest.
Steel yes - I use them for cooking and tiffin plates.
Dosa tava is of the iron variety.
Of late, i also have a lot of earthen clay ware. pots and pans - for cooking.

No plastics even for dry storage if you can avoid them
and I have totally stopped using non-stick vessels. I do not like using bone china as the source is still crushed bone material. Melamine is strictly No.
