I am 30+ and of course less than 35 (what is the big difference?). I have 2 kids, elder one is 4+ and younger one is almost 2.

I had 2 c-sections, and had that post delivery belly too. But with proper tummy exercise, and rightly fitting cloths my belly is no more visible.

I also had faced postpartum severe hair loss, skin darkening and weight gain which impacted a lot in my looks. But within a year after each pregnancy, I was able to get back to my shapes.

    Hi Anika,

    Nice topic.
I have noticed for Indian people, Aunty seems to be a catch all term for new acquaintances/relationships which are either distant or confusing/ new friends.
I feel comfortable with people calling me by name, but since it is is considered disrespectful to call elders by name, they are forced to call people with a designation. It's hard to accept that, when people call us aunty, but hey if you feel young inside, nobody can make you feel otherwise!!

    True gone girl.

the fact is no one likes to feels old.period.

most women these days maintain very well and as I said I know some women who look so good that even twenty year olds have not maintained that well.

As sbgv said people have worked hard to maintain themselves and anyone who did it deserves to be appreciated.it is not at all an easy task.especially with kids, work, home and so many other factors around..they find time to look good.that is commendable.

i have to admit,it is irritating at times when girls just few years younger calls one aunty.if someone is 10 or 15 yrs younger calls me one, then fine but not someone who is just three to four years younger.

It is really shocking to know how some women are so full of themselves here. Just because they take good care of themselves and don't look their age according to themselves they think it is ok for a simple 30 year old lady who is not too bothered about her looks to be called an aunty!
This is the limit of self glorification!

    Dear OP,

    Nice thread!

In our society regardless of age a girl's aunty status is decided by her marital status!

I am unmarried and hence still a 'little girl' for most people.
Though you may think it must be going in my favour, it is not always so.
Since my parents have been away for a month, I am managing alone at home.
The house maid has been giving me a hell of a time.
Every time I ask her something she tells me I am a baby and not old enough to talk to her!
Now to come to think of it, there must be several young wives of my age or perhaps even a little younger to me. They would be taken seriously by their house help, just because they are married and hence 'aunties'.
I inspite of being educated and working am still being called a baby and not taken seriously!

    Let me share something interesting.

I have made a very amusing observation. Everytime I go to the vegetable market alone, the vendors call out to me 'mama.....mama'....come and buy vegetables.
Now when I go to the same market with my mother they call out.....'baby'.....'baby'....ask mum to buy you these fruits!

So you see what people call you has got very little to do with your looks, but rather depends on how they view you.

    Complicated topic yet entertaining.
I'm ashamed to say that I havent really maintained myself as much as I should. Workaholic hubby doesn't leave me any time.
Hereditary nice skin slower aging. Thanks to little care that I can manage, haven't gotten too bad though.
Lucky enough most of the times I get compliments like I don't look married or mommy. Look younger than my younger sisters etc. blush blush...

Sometimes some vendors do call me aunty my mom granny. I plainly ask them do I look like aunty to you? You are so much older than me grandpa.
There was this one incident recently. A (neighbor) balding, pot bellied father of a girl older than my baby says "Aunty which building you live in?" Wanted to smack his face in his orange scooty. Instead I said "Beta adjacent building"
It makes me laugh instead of anger when I remember it now.

So true many of us don't like to move to the next phase in terms of addressing.

    Good thread OP.

This issue is a nagging one. I don't mind being called 'aunty' by appropriate relations. But have to say no to random people calling me that unless they're my children's age!!

Now I've been called aunty by
Milkman - he's definitely older than me
Maid - she's about the same age as me. Now she calls me akka.
    Veggie vendor!
And recently while I was shopping at the supermarket, a girl, definitely college-going, addressed me 'aunty' to get a clarification on some product. This I definitely object to as she is educated. I told her so and also let her know a simple 'excuse me' would have sufficed to get my attention!!
    And the list continues....

But the worse thing is being addressed 'sir' every 5 seconds by the cold-calling call-cntre people. They get a right telling off. And my name is not one of the can be a man's or a woman's name. Its definitely feminine, and no excuse for Indians.

Actually,i have observed many young men say of 25-27 yrs didn't want to call aunty to ladies who are 30-35 yrs and who are even well maintained. But,its the habbit ,which we have been taught.Think of men,who are 30 yrs old and a 24-25 old calling him uncle. So,i think this is the habbit and someone said right bollywood is ruled by aunties and i think uncles too... :)
