ok so finally answer paper leaked. good good. i know :coffee ...i was very close....dint want to spoil the fun game ...so dint give out the answer
a very good idea of converting kitchen waste into something very useful....buying organic fertilizers from the market is an expensive idea.I used to put used tea leaves, veg peels, dried flowers into the pot directly and mix it with the soil and in a few days itself it shrinks and get mixed into the soil...never came this idea of grinding. Maybe I"ll try now. Thanks for sharing this wonderful idea. Recently I started putting all the veg peels, flowers, etc.,in a big pot and let this dried up and later I crush it little and use this.
awwww.... I lost :-( didnt know this was gradening section :bonk ..... not that if I knew I would know the answer.... not even in my wildest dream I would be any close to the answer :-D very informative.... thanks for sharing....
PD, it is ok. but it was fun having people guess it. it was just to create awareness, that we can definitely utlise what we throw in a better way. i knew most of you would have guessed or come very close. Since we have mosquitoes that do not spare us even in summer, had to find a way of incorporating this without having a breeding place. it has worked, and more over there is absolutely no smells. and the flowers are real big..
Dear Shanvy, I started reading from the 1st post which kept me guessing enough. Though I could guess it was for the garden, I was sure there was something more interesting in it. One can imagine how I would have been by the time I hit upon the 31st post. Ofcourse, even after getting the answer I never stop until I finish reading all the posts in the thread. So assume I am the 47th post.....for Srama to check the traffic in Gardening.....!!!! I was actually doing this few month back. My mom was doing it and I had followed her. As you had said, I was troubled with the smell. In Chennai mosquitoes were bothering me. So stopped and had infact raised a question in some thread here. Alas, today I got a reply and a wonderful solution. A seperate mixie is the hindering factor now. Can I just dry the kitchen wastes and put it in the pots in the same way as you had explained?? ......Until I find some dedicated old mixie jar for this purpose.
This is a very good idea ; I was going to guess when I spotted the answer was revealed So interesting and useful and beneficial too. very impressive
@Shanvy I am very very new to gardening, don't have any idea about it but want to start it now. I can keep a few plants (in pots) in terrace only and was reading how to go about it. I read online that if we don't have much soil we can use soil and home compost mix instead of soil, is that true? Can I just dry the kitchen waste in sun and crush it and use it. Also I want to grow herbal plants first. Can you help me which plants I can choose first (you know my background about sinus, wheezing, etc) @Satchitananda I read in sans rice thread that you are starting home composting. Can you give me a few tips on how to start it.
