furniture is a gamble. you can go all the way to royapettah, and check out or you can also visit the furniture expo happening in nandambakkam.

i buy my furniture locally sudha. and he has been giving us good quality for quite some years.. and my woodwork person checked out the sofa we bought from him and rated it good.. and he quotes reasonable..

    check your pm .

Shopping for furniture is not easy. I am a big fan of imported furniture, esp smaller euro style ones.
I am not a fan of Indian furnitures unless they are made of real wood, do not like particle board ones.
    Here is what I found.

Royapettah is the single best place to shop. Many small shops have some pieces but you will have to shop around.

Modfurn, Royapettah - Has some pieces but many are old style, but they have oversized ones.

Jayabarath, Royapettah - Same as Modfurn. But he has some good pieces, not many imported pieces.

Damro, Royapettah & Arcot Rd - Nice imported Srilankan furniture at very good prices, but limited selection.

Woodpecker, NM Road - Import only store, small selection but they have good pieces. Got to negotiate prices are bit high for some prices but affordable.

@home, NM Road - Great Store and location, Obscence prices. Total waste of time.

Durian, Nungambakkam - Very good high quality pieces, made from their factory. Modern Indian style and fusion available. Good selection but prices are high.

Anthony Furniture, NM Rd - Indian furniture, made from Kerala. Some nice pieces, good prices but limited selection. Worth a visit.

There are many furniture importers who do not have a store operte from a small godown, they import from China. But they import crappy cheap pieces.

Some stores import nicer pieces. But it depends on availability, so you have to keep on checking frequently.
Example - I saw a good price in Woodpecker, bit too big for my requirments for 89K, discounted to 76K.
Same piece is available in a China factory for around 40K. So I am sure it is negotiable.

I contacted some stores in China directly, but they do 5 or more pieces generally. Most of them Shipping is cheap but they do not do one piece and they have standard designs. Only fabric selection is different. PM me if you have interest in imported stuff. There are some unqiue stuff (art decor) that I am trying to import.

    Hi,
I have visited few shops in Madipakkam too..but they dont have more models..We are not looking for very high end looking for the budget around 25k for sofa and 15k for dining..
Have visited woodpecker both in besant nagar and NM road.. There prices are moderate but felt quality is not that much good as when we tried opening of dresser handle came out.. also in wardrobe
Visited antony and Zuari furnitures in Tambaram velachery road.. antony has more designs but felt little bit costly..
Zuari is too costly compared to the shops near by.

Has anyone booked furniture's in Fair (Now running in trade center).
Is that is worth compared in buying in stores.?

I have been to the Trade Fair last year. It is a little bit better selection as you have a wide range available. I noticed that most guys exhibiting are incidentally from Royapettah. Prices are competitive, they are negotiable as well.

Nonetheless, it is worth taking a look there.

I will be in town next month through to year end. So definitely I will take a look at the year end sales exhibitions at this place.

how do you all manage with your wardrobe.. in the sense.. there will definitely be clothes that you just wear for few hours and might not wash and keep it to wear later and you cant keep them inside the cuoboard too... where in the house/room you keep those.. i am asking this esp for my husband and FIl pants/veshtis... they are insisting on typing a rope in the room but i am aginst it for i feel it spoils the look of the room..

what is the alternative to this.. any suggestions??/ please let me know anything that can replace a rope in the room..

can i get something like this?.. is it availabl ein chennai? again i cant afford to spend a lot of money on this and as well dont have a lot of space in each rooms...
