    Hello,

I am hoping to get advice from someone who has been in a similar situation as me.

I am 20 weeks pregnant, and had my anomaly scan just two days back. By god's grace, everything is normal, but the uterine artery doppler showed a notch in the blood flow to the uterus. I am a little worried, though my gynec assured me that many times, this would correct itself by the next scan.

To be on the safer side, she has double my protein supplement intake and started me on a 30-day course of Ecosprin (once a day) for thinning blood.
I was wondering if this is too drastic or is it a normal course of prevention.....I read some online reviews and they were similar treatments given, but any first hand experiences with you ladies?

Thanks in advance for your inputs!

    Hi,
Even i had the same report in my anomaly scan.
    Same treatment for me too.
My doc said it is the normal course of action for the uterine artery notch.
The small concern is that the weight of the baby may be less...that is why the protein supplement.
Other than that nothing to worry.
    Am 28 weeks now.

Thanks Ani..for your feedback.. Are we seeing the same doc by any chance? :)

Anyway, it's a relief to know that this is pretty normal. Hoping to hear from more ladies with similar experiences.

    Hi Rachna,
I was given ARG9 protein sachets (1/day) till the last day of my pregnancy to tackle this problem. I went on to have a healthy baby by the end of term, and did not have any specific problems related to this issue. My baby was 2.6 kgs when he was born at 38wks.
I am unable to view your PM as I have not made enough posts in the last month. If you have any further questions, please post them here.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi rachna,
I had this notch till the end of pregnancy. Sometimes docs say this notch disappears after 25 weeks.
I had taken only the protien supplements.
My baby was IUGR baby and was of low birth weight.
He was born at 38 weeks and 2 kgs weight.
He is now 2 mnths old and very active and his milestones are pretty normal.
    So dont need to worry.
Jus keep following ur doc's advice and increase ur protein intake.
Relax and everything will b normal.

    Dear Vmtaurus and Aniswami

Many many thanks to both of you for quick response. Now, i feel a bit relaxed. I am from bangalore and consulting Manipal Hospital (co-incidently i found bangalore in your profile also).I was not given any protein supplement by doctor but was given D-protin drink only on insisting. My doctor was not worried on this issue. I am 20 weeks pregnant now and she wants to repeat the scan on 24th week. If the notch is still there, she will prescribe medication as she told. I have increased my protein intake and just praying God.

    Dear Vmtaurus

Please let me know if you had same notch after 24 week also, i.e till end of pregnancy or protein supplements were given for safe side only?Had you gone through repeated scan on 24th week. Can it lead to delivery before due date ? Will it lead to C- section? Pls tell me if you had Normal or c-section delivery.

    Dear Aniswami

Pls tell me had u taken medicines for this (protein supplement) from 20 th week i.e 1st scan.Had your doctor repeated the scan on 24th week. Can it lead to delivery before due date ? Will it lead to C- section? Pls tell me if you had Normal or c-section delivery.

Your replies and co-operation will be highly appreciated.May God Bless your baby

    Hi Vmtaurus

Your post is really helpful. Thanks a ton. Sorry to bother you again and again ,but please tell me from which month you started taking the supplements again as i am a bit confused when you told that after 2nd trim scan u stopped taking the supplements and later u have written that you had taken the supplements till seventh month. From which month you started taking the supplements again after stopping them once? Does it mean that notch can come again during pregnancy even after disappearing fully? had u gone through repeated no. of scans every month to monitor the same?

I have also found on internet that it may lead to hypertension in last trimester. Have u faced the same?

    Hi Rachna,

I was taking the supplement from my anomaly scan till the beginning of seventh month, where the interval growth scan showed the notch had disappeared.
But, later around the 36th week, the same notch was discovered, but in the umbilical cord artery, which is not very serious, but needed attention. At this point, my gynec advised me to restart ARG9 and I continued to have it till the day of my delivery.
No, I did not have hypertension, but you are right, there is a likelyhood to it, incase of a notch.
But, don't worry, usually with the protein supplement, it does correct itself.
    Wishing you the very best.
