Gurudev Sree Sivanesan Swamiji – Birthday celebrations -12thApr 2012
A Potrait of Shirdi SAIBABA worshipped in Shirdi by Sree SivanesanSwamiji (for 4+ decades) was handed over three months before his Mahasamadhi to a devotee in Trichy, Tamilnadu and thus has his leela of building abeautiful temple in a vast area in a village near Madurai ring road (about the temple a separate post)

Sree Sivanesan Swamiji was born as last child of Smt. Alamelu and Shri Muthaiah on 12th April 1927. It was the holy day of Sree Ramnavami. His birth place was NayakkarPalayam in Coimbatore District ofTamil Nadu, the then Madras State. It was the sound of the ringing temple bells, celebrating the day of Lord Ram’s birth that greeted him. It is said that the baby already had two front teeth and a ‘jata’ (small tuft of hair atthe back of the head) when he was born. Astrologers foretold that he would notlead the life of a householder but would become an ascetic or a sanyasi.

As he was spiritually inclined his school education was abruptlystopped. In Coimbatore, he worked as a helper in the Electricity Department, ondaily wages, for some time. Actually, he was too young to hold any suchposition and had to hide in the fields, when there was a visit from theInspectors of the Labour Department. Out of all the short term occupations, heloved his position as a sales assistant in a book shop, which he undertookbecause of his love for books. But as he showed a keener interest in readingthe books, rather than in selling them, he lost that job.

After the death of his mother, he left his home never to return, Hereached Bombay, after his wanderings, during the Navy Bandh month in 1944, at a tender age of seventeen. Matunga, Mahim,Sion were his haunts; and the seashore was a place for his meditation. he movedon. Tryambakeshwar, in Nashik District, became his next halting place. He grew very close to Mauni Baba there, whowas not observing ‘maun’ or silence, then. After a very congenial stay, he left for Shirdi. He put his feet on thesacred soil of Shirdi in 1953, around Sree Ramanavami time, to be with the Jagadguru Sainath Maharaj, the Divinity since his early years and his Master. Shirdi was his home ever after. After reaching Shirdi, he never crossed the borders of Shirdi, In fact, in his later years, he didnot even leave the temple complex.

ShirdiSai Baba Sansthan was under the control of the Court Receiver for some years. When the incumbent Court Receiver observed the sincere and selfless services of Swamiji for some time,he entrusted some duties to him, such as lighting the evening lamps in various places. Swamiji recalled that there were thirteen in all. More particularly,Swamiji was asked to look after the chavadi on Thursdays. (In thosedays, the Chavadi was kept open for devotees, only on Thursdays). Ofcourse, Dwarkamayi was also a scene of his activity and he tended the Dhuni with great love. His clothes became full of soot, but he did not care forhis appearance. Swamiji performed all his tasks to the utmost satisfaction ofthe Receiver. He undertook the cleaning of Dwarkamayi, Gurusthan andeven the Nanda Deep and Dutta Mandir in the Lendi-Baugh. The sandalwood ‘tilak’ was appliedby him on Baba’s photos and many deities before the aratis and theevening lamps were lit in various places. In return for his dedicated services,he was allowed to sleep in a room adjoining the Dwarkamayi. When it was learnt that he knew several languages, including English, Marathi, Hindi and many South Indian languages, Swamiji was entrusted with the work of writing names andaddresses on the envelopes used for sending UDI (sacred ashes formBaba’s Dhuni) as ‘Prasad ’ to the devotees who sent money orders. Then, the Sansthan gave him Rs. 15/- per month as honorarium. The money was well utilised by him for the needs of others.

Swamijisang in an incredibly sweet voice; and knew hundreds of bhajans by heart, someof which he may have composed himself. The devotees got some of these Bhajansprinted in little booklets. At one time, there were a number of resident devoteeswho participated in the singing with different instruments; and a variety of bhajanswere sung. There was joy and devotion in all hearts as they sat before Swamiji, who gave the ‘tal’ (beats) with his rod of Gungrus (bells) thathe beat on a coiled mound of cloth, set upon a small tripod. He led the bhajans, with correct words from memory.

Thispractice was carried on for more than twenty years till his last and terrible illness, which took its toll in less than three weeks after it was diagnosed. Hebreathed his last at 0.10 hours on Monday, 12th February 1996, at Shirdi andmerged into the Divine Light of Sai Baba. Many believe that the swinging of the‘kandil’ (lantern) in the Dwarakamayi indicated this. Swamiji’s Mahasamadhihas beenbuilt in Shirdi, off Pimpalwadi Road, 2.3km away from the Sansthan’sPrasadalaya, by his devotees on the land of Meher Dhun Endowment.

May BABA bless us and reach us to all his leelas to enjoy the nectar of the same.

:thankyou2: Glad Baba has blessed you to visit his ashram, yes it really divine to spend time in the serene atmosphere. he has also composed many bhajans in the sense he just used to casually sing and some of them were blessed to note down the lyrics and pass it on devotees. Many times devotees used to request him to pose for a photo and click but the image would go blank when developed, only before his samadhi we were blessed to have this photo.

Will update about the temple soon, BTW no "ji" is required to address me
