My 17-day-old has caught cold I think, he's making that heavy sound while sleeping and breathing which we generally make when we are suffering from cold... and it's very cold in Delhi...I was asked by the doctor to keep him in the sun (without any clothes) for about half an hour daily as he was detected with mild jaundice two days after birth...that's when he caught cold and now I am really worried...
Deepawali, You need to get your baby in a room with a vaporizer ASAP. buy a steam vaporizer and put the baby in a closed room with it, just the steam, no Vicks or anything. It will clear his nasal passages up.
Deepawali, if its cold in Delhi, I dont think you should expose your child naked to the outside atmosphere. The place I live is also very cold and to get the sunshine, I was asked to give D-drops to my child to get the required vitamins. Check with you doctor again and see how the jaundice is. Also, certain amount of heavy breathing is normal in infants. But if you suspect she/he has cold, then you can perhaps go for the steam vaporizer. I was also asked to give saline drops to my LO when she had cold at 6 weeks. I used to give 1 drop in each nostril before every feed and she seemed relieved. check woth your doctor. I hope she gets better soon.
The issue here is not vitamins, but jaundice. You need the actual light to kill off the bilirubin causing jaundice. In a cold place though, you can check to see if a clinic around you offers phototherapy.
