A memorable and emotional Republic day in my sister’s life!

Yesterday the 63rd Republic day of our country had sprung a surprise on my sister. She accompanied her grandson to his school for the republic day celebrations as he was participating in group singing and the prayer song. His parents could not accompany him as they too were busy with their school function. She introduced herself to his class teacher. She in turn had introduced her to the principal of the school. As she had gone well ahead of time for the function to start, she was just sitting waiting for the function to start.

All in a sudden the principal came to her side and told her that she wanted her to hoist the National flag. My sister told her that she felt very much embarrassed as she was just an ordinary person and that she had not that good at public speaking.

The principal told her that as an elderly person she thought her fit to hoist the flag and she would be able to say a few words to the children. My sister was flabbergasted to hear this, but she had to bow down to her request. So she had the privilege of hoisting our National flag[IMG] at a public school. She managed to blurt out a few words also and got the applause from the staff and the children. She thanked the principal profusely for giving her the great opportunity to hoist the flag. She was offered a beautiful bouquet after her speech.

Later she was also requested to be a judge in a group singing event. Being a connoisseur of Carnatic music she happily agreed to be a judge. When she narrated the incident to me over phone from Hyderabad I too felt very happy for her. We sisters have an emotional bond and love with each other and share our joys and sorrows. If we were there our P.C.Sriram would have clicked some pictures the one in life time opportunity my sister got. I forgot to ask her if any one had taken pictures.

I could not resist the temptation to share this with my IL friends.:):)

How lovely PS madam! It indeed is an honor - not because one is in that position to hoist a flag (because of their job) but for the true meaning of it, like in your sister's case of being a true citizen and that too a senior citizen of our country. It indeed was very thoughtful of the principal to have recognized that. I am sure someone or the other or the school photographer might have taken some pictures, she must get them.

Thank you for sharing such a lovely incident with us here.

That was such a wonderful gesture on the part of the school principal. I can imagine how privileged your sister must have felt at having got an opportunity to hoist the flag.

    Dear Rama,
In fact it shows the magnanimity of the school principal to give the honour of hoisting the flag to a person who is not a VIP, that too spontaneously!
My sister told me that picture was taken, but she doesn't want to ask them. More over she told me that she wanted to share the information only to me as she is very close with me and that she hardly expected me to post it in the web.
Thanks for sharing the joy with us,
    Love,
    PS

    Dear Satchi,
Whoever gets an opportunity to hoist our national flag in a public place other than a VIP,would be thrilled and would feel happy. She was blessed to get this opportunity.
Thanks for stepping in and posting your sweet comments,

    Dear Sriniketan,
The whole credit go to the principal who gave this honour to my sister. As a coincidence I came to know last night that my niece who was a gazetted officer at ISRO Bangalore and was working under Kasturi Rangan, also got the honour of hoisting the flag at ISRO housing layout, though she had taken VR.
I am really happy that two of our family members had got this great opportunity of hoisting our national flag.
Thanks for joining me on sharing this happiness along with me,
    Love,
    PS
