    Hello David,

We are looking to relocate to TVM too next year. I believe there are a couple of factors to consider when deciding on schools/syllabus.

    1) How old are the kids?
    2) How long do you plan to stay in India? Do you plan to move out again in a few years?

From your post, your kids are quite young and will be able to adapt easier to the Indian school system. Also, if your aim is to be in India for a longer period with the kids doing their college education in India as well, then it probably would make sense to induct them in CBSE/ICSE syllabus, as these are geared to prepare the student for common entrance tests etc. From that angle, I would suggest you also explore other schools before deciding.

TRINS has a good campus but it is quite far. Depending upon where you live, it could be a very long commute. The school strength is only about 400, so it is not very crowded.

Christ Nagar International is in Kowdiar. They have been running schools for quite a few years now, but the international school is relatively new.

Chempaka - not heard about the school until recently.

All of the 3 schools - not much information or experience regarding teaching/faculty qualifications/academic rigor.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks

    Hello ANK,
How is your son doing? How is Christ Nagar International? We are relocating next year to TVM and would like to get more information regarding Christ Nagar school - class strength, teaching, academic rigor, extra curricular activities, infrastructure etc. My child will be joining 9th grade next year. Any information would be immensely helpful.

Thanks in advance and best of luck

    Hi Simi and Smitha,

I am new to this forum too. Last week heard about a new international school that is coming up in Peyad. The guy who owns it, I met him few days back in our apartment and they have a pre-school running in Kowdiar now.

Here are the details, I have found in our conversation, It may help you.

    1. Seems like they are building an international school in about 10-15 acres
    2. Teachers & curriculum team is from all around the world
    3. It will be IB, ICSE and IGCSE (But no CBSE)
    4. Anthony Eapen (Former Sarvodya/Mar Ivanouis principal), Atanu Dey (University of California), and Aarti C. Rajaratnam (and few more names he mentioned I can't remember now) are part of the academic team.
    5. Motto of the school is "Learning to Think" and "Learning to Learn".
    6. It sounded very promising as well ultra-modern, and they are targeting to open it this year (July 1st) from Grade 1 to 6.

I can get their contact/website details, if anyone of you need it.

    Hello Lively,

The Trivandrum international school is not new. It is around 8-10 years since they have started their operations.

I went and saw chempaka last week and not impressed at all.

I am going to check St. Thomas and Sarvodya this week. We are now desperate to find a school for our son (7 years) and he is completing his 1st grade this May in Singapore. We are moving back to TVM after spending 10 years in Singapore.

Can you all recommend any other school (Holistic approach is recommended).

    Hello Chitra,

I was talking about Christ Nagar International school being new. TRINS has been in existence since 2004, so relatively not new.

We visited TRINS and Saraswathi Vidyalaya during 2011. TRINS is really far and the commute can be very long depending upon where you live. Saraswathi Vidyalaya is located in Vattiyoorkavu, but the school seemed a little crowded. But, the Principal was very polite, welcoming and spoke to us at length very patiently and we had gone to the school without any appointment! The school teaches yoga, music and Bhagavad Gita. It has CBSE syllabus. If your son is only 7 years old, he will be able to adapt to Indian schools far more easily than older kids.

Check out St. Thomas School at Mukkola. The school offers ICSE and CBSE. Let me know your feedback.

    All the best.

    Hi smiles4dia,

Can you share your experiences about Chempaka? Why did you feel let down? Which grade is your child in? It would be useful for forum members if you can post more details.

    Thank you

    Hi Chitra,
Have you finalized admission for your son? Which school have you chosen? Would love to hear your feedback regarding all the schools that you evaluated and what criteria you used to make your decision.

    Thank you,
