how to teach ABC's

Guess you are all set to make ur lil one a genius!! a bit very early for kids to learn letters now is what i feel.

But kids are really awesome and grasp anything. You repeat the name of every letter she pics and tell that its letter"a" and you are placing it back. try to play hide and seek of letters.

you can start teaching letters with flashcards that have related object names. It helps bettter. you can alsom buy some CDs or search on the net for various teaching methods for the children of your daughters age.

I have not brought the alphabets for my DD (20 months ) but have bought some board books which she loves. I have bought the books of animals, birds and fruits. I also have another book which has some rhymes , and each alphabet with a picture. So she loves to point out at them and tries to tell what it is.

You can also try to buy some flash cards to teach.

 

Babies at this age can understand only phonetics they cannot identify letters...like you may sound 'A' and flash A, baby will get to say 'A' or 'BA' for B, 'KA' for C and so on. Lov to ur kid

 

i think u r rushing a bit...forget about the alphabet now..try showing her pictures of animals, birds, some shapes etc...i too have a daughter 2 years 2 months old, not started teaching anything..y crowd the brain so early...but she counts from 1-10 ( started doing that very early, from 15 months), knows the whole english alphabet. sings about 20 malayalam songs..believe me i have not taught her anything

 

Dear sowmya, it's too early to teach AB,C, kids can pick up phonetics and teach them the sounds, identification comes later. My grand daughter who is just 9 months old can identify lights, keys fridge, micro, washing machine, calender, Micky-mini, crow, squirrel ,teddy bear, duck dogs, bus, etc only thro repetition of words and sounds. She knows by now who will be where and where to look for things that i mentioned. We are trying picture books to familiarize her. She understands if we say 'sit down , stand up' and does so, apart from taking things and if i say 'up' she lifts the toy up and 'down 'means, brings her down.
This is the time to pick up actions and imitate.

Another method is to when you pick up apple say' A for apple, F for fan , c for cup, W for water etc, the association of the letter with the objects will register just by frequent listening. Keep saying whether she listens to you or not, just see that she is in your vicinity. even others at home should make it a point to say, like p for papa, call papa.....

you can hop, jump and say 'jump on A', B etc. kids like to jump , sit and hop.
Take her for a walk and keep introducing her the things she sees, which are familiar. It's always better to go from known to unknown.
