    Hi there,
My name is Anu. Found this website a place to get some ideas from housewives who have some great ideas, but don't know how to make it work as a business. Am planning to convert a family talent into business. My grand mom n mom are great cooks ESP in making authentic Kerala sweets, pickles n snacks. Their Ada payasam ,Aravana payasam, unniyappams are on par with best you get in Kerala. There are so many other items to add to this list. How do I sell these items, start a shop or run it home based?

How do I make it work in this city? Need ideas.

first of all,i would like to appreciate your good idea :)
prepare the food and pack it nicely by means of aluminum foil or do good wrapping of those items..
start a small shop nearby colleges/schools ... or else ask permission from the college management to start a small canteen like environment :)

    Hi Anu
Grt idea and the best way to put your skill to best use . Since you're planning to start , I would advise you to give it a shot on trial basis , and operate from home in and around your area without incurring expenditure on infrastructure , Ones you see it rolling , then ofcourse sky is the limit
    Best Wishes

    Hi Anu,

You can start by asking among your friends or even a poll in IL which homemade items they would like to purchase, if available. That would give you a fair idea of what items to start with.

You can also provide people with a list of items you can make on order. If there are many orders coming for that item, you can keep a regular stock of that too.

Make sure your packing is very good without leaks or spills. A proper air-tight packing would increase customer's confidence in you.

In fact, I am also looking for starting home based catering. Would be great if we both can work together.
