Hi Mousumi,

Before u start working on the cloth wash it to remove starch and dirt from the cloth. Cotton, tussar and cotton mixed clothes are best for fabric painting.
Draw an outline of the design on the cloth and stretch the cloth with a embroidery frame. On a piece of same cloth first do a color test. some times the colors u imagine might not gel with the fabric color.

I generally fill the design with white color first and then leave to dry for few sec( not drying white paint completely) then i paint the desired colors. while using double colors or shading i dilute the white paint which i use on the base.

Always start from top of the design and proceed to bottom. leave it to dry completely for 2days and press with an hot iron on the reverse side. This helps the colors fix permanently to the cloth.
