One of the wordings in Bharathiyar’s new Athichudi(poem) was, “தெய்வம் நீ என்றுணர் ”.Roughly, it says, ‘feel yourself as GOD”. How true these lines are!! When I was contemplating about these lines, it opened a new door of understanding about the almighty. If everyone thinks about it, and live like what he said, I think most of the problems would be solved in this beautiful world. There won’t be any fights/protests in the name of GOD and moreover there won’t be any discrimination about the various religious/castes etc. Apparently it would lead into the status that all the human beings are equal.

For feeling ourselves as GOD, one should be a good one at their inner self. We would think all the good things; we would love the fellow human beings; we wouldn’t look at anybody with vengeance; we wouldn’t have any grudge feeling towards anybody. It goes like this.. See, how many merits are there when we have that feeling. Our own world would be like a heaven to live.

I was a very religious person when I was a child. I always wanted to go temples, I used to blame the GOD for my failures, always have the fear about GOD in my mind that is I used to think that if I do anything wrong, GOD will punish me. The list goes like this. Added to these, I had some small sentiments like ‘I have to wear this particular dress for this exam, I have to use this particular pen, my grandma should bless me before I go for any competition.. blah blahs..

As I grow, I lost the entire above said attitude in me. I don’t know at which point that dramatic change happened; but it was happened. I am neither an atheist nor a theist. I am a simple person whom always wants the happiness in all the good things. For me, one who does the good things, serving the needed hands, speaking the soothing words to the sufferers is GOD. I respect them and salute them. Above all, I like to worship our mother nature. I am always amused about her beauty and her bestowment for all the living and non living things of the mother earth.

Usually I have my prayers at bed time. This is one of the very few good habits I have from my childhood. Of late, this prayer has been converted into my introspection time. I used to think about the day’s activities, what I have done; what I shouldn’t have done everything. This would lasts for few minutes and during the time I used to close my eyes too. This is like a meditation for me. Later I wanted my DD also gets this pleasure of meditation. So I told her to pray for few seconds. As soon as I told her, the question session was started.

“mma, where is GOD? There is nothing”(As we sat on the bed, she asked like that by pointing out the wall).
I touched her heart and told,”Here it is da”
    “I couldn’t see him?”
“No you cant see him dear, you could only feel him”
“how ma?”( she doesn’t understand the word ‘feel’, so she asked very innocently how)
“Once you grow up, you would know how to feel him and amma would teach you everything da. Now you just pray for sometime and lay down..”
“ok ma” (she might have been so tired to ask the questions further. That’s why; the session was over here itself :))

She closed her eyes and uttered the prayer ,” bless you GOD..”(சாமி நல்லா இரு சாமி)

I chuckled for sometime and retired to bed happily. I know my DD would understand what her mom told as she grows...

Children and their innocence? Can we ever have enough of that, prana? :) it is quite difficult to explain the concept of God to children..I remember starting with "God created the universe" and when she left for hostel, ending with"amma will not always there with you baby, there will be times you need a confidante and at least I would feel better if that was God":)

    Beautiful post, Prana!

How wonderful the MahaKavi was to translate 'Tat Tvam Asi' into such simple terms in Tamizh! A special thanks to you for sharing your thoughts in a manner that we can all relate to in our day-to-day life.

All of us ask God for us to be blessed, but only children can bless God itself. And God loves them all the more for that simple purity of heart. As Mindi said, we can never have enough of children and innonence.

P.S.: I'd have liked to reply to this in Tamizh, for a few expressions are best used that way, but this being a generic forum, I have kept it in English for all of us to understand.
