Dear All, Most of us do hate cabbage. But it is good vegetable for salads. Most of the time i like to buy the purple cabbage because it looks good and colourful when mixed to a salad. Similarly last week I had purchased one and since there was too much of it wanted to fry it. The minute I put it in water, this is what happened. The colour completely ran out - like when we wash a colored garment. MY GOD WHAT A SHOCK THAT WAS. Cabbage being filled with chemical dyes to make it saleable. Thought must share the photos with you. You can see the cabbage turning blue from violet after washing. So next time we reach out for this cabbage please be careful. I have decided to avoid it altogether. Regards, Uma :bowdown
OMG!!!! The way to identify purple cabbage is tat, it will be shiny by nature, it will not be fully purple... Smell the cabbage you will get to know whether it is colored or not. cos of toxic present in it, you will be able to smell the toxic.
you could have reported it... the shopkeeper has to be sued for this ... so that the real culprits come out..
Whoa.. red cabbage is one of the ingredients in my salad as i dont like regular cabbage in salad. Guess, i would just have to stick to lettuce now. Thanks for posting the info Uma.
Dear All, I would like to give you all an update on this. I had sent this cabbage for lab test and the lab reports that it is the natural colour in cabbage and no toxic dye has been added. They said they are however going to collect some more samples from farms and shops to verify this further. Will keep you posted on the outcome Regards Uma
uma, thanks. appreciate your effort of sending it to lab. i have seen cabbage turning blue for the past 10 years, sometimes owing to the hardness of water that i wash it with..and it does not remain purple after cooking..it changes to a bluish purple.. but you can definitely feel the color in watermelon, peas, and some other vegetables..
