    hi all..
I am living in a family (my in laws) which all the members are very fond of drinking chai. At least they drink 5 times chai per day and during holiday it could be more. It's like they are addicted. My FIL especially, he drinks chai so much though having diabetes. Me myself maximum drinking 2 cups, sometimes not at all. I am just wondering if it is good for health?
More now i am worried as my FIL gives chai also to my 8 mnths old DD. We always tell him not to give, but he doesnt care for the reason that during winter chai is necessary even for baby. Getting frustrate.
Are there many people who drinks chai so often? How is the effect on health? Please share

Does your in-law's have excessive grey hair? Chai drinking in excess causes that, i am told.

Anything in excess is not good, this includes tea coffee or even milk. Taking it without milk is even better.

rifea, Welcome to IL Health forum. Drinking in excess is not got for health. Regarding how good tea is for health, it reminds me of what i have read in some magazine few years ago."Tea should not be boiled along with milk for long - this "Don't" is what we are doing in our daily life. Tea if properly brewed and had is good for health (not the one prepared in Indian way). Tea leaves has flavanoids - an antioxidant hence good for health. That way, black tea is best.

Just go through this Brew Tea | Brewing the Perfect Cup of Tea

i don't think they have excessive grey hair. My BIL also but his hair are black, normal. Yes i agree that anything in excess isn't good. I am looking for visible signs or effects of drinking too much chai which isn't good for health so i can explain my in laws.
    Thanks dear

Hi, tea/coffee actually dehydrates our body, though it has antioxidant and has benefit but it's not good to have tea so many times. You should never give tea to the baby,it will hyper the brain. I have never seen/heard giving tea/coffee to babies in these cold countries so there is no necessity giving tea in India to keep body warm, there are other things for babies to keep them warm. Please don't let your FIL to do this. Take care.

    Hi,
Thanks for such informative link. If tea shouldn't be boiled with milk for long then our indian way to prepare tea is wrong. Hmm got a look further for this. Yup black tea, and i am told that green tea is good for diet (making body slim).

Hi pumpkin, thanks for sharing. If it dehydrates body then should avoid for sure. About my baby, we even beg him (my FIL) not to give chai. But he still does behind us. Even no one from family or neighbour telling chai for baby is good during winter. It's him only. I read somewhere that tea can decrease the ability of baby's body to absorb calcium and vitamin. I am worried. Gotta be more strict. Thanks

one thing it is a diuretic, that is can cause water loss.Second thing is it is stimulant to brain. kids may get reduced attention span/hyperactivity with these.Third it can cause anxiety disorders.Rarely can vary hearty beat order also. Two cup for adult is ok.Better not to give to kid at this age. Happy home!

yes very true, it absorbs the essential vitamins and minerals, take your baby away from your FIL when giving tea to him. If he give tea to your baby everyday then baby also will be addicted to tea.

Himma's points are also very true.
