If the builder is giving you the option then vitrified. if you have the money and can splurge on good quality and the extra labour on the polishing then marble..

personally i feel tiles is a better option, due to the variety, easy maintenance.

but both needs to be laid properly for a good look/finish.

If you have the option to choose, i would suggest to go for Marbonite. They look similar to marble and are easy to maintain like tiles. They cost only marginally higher than vitrified tiles and give much better look to the floor. If not marbonite, then go for vitrified tiles.

Both marbonite and vitrified tiles are sturdy and easy to maintain. They do not chip or break easily. Make sure you go for good brands. There are lesser costing brands in which the tiles tend to break or chip.

Do not opt for marble unless you are going for a very good quality. Marble which is not of highest quality tends to be porous and stains very quickly. It is difficult to get rid of the stains too.

Hi sudha, rs.50 i think will be the sq.ft rate.. 1 virtified tile is 4 sq.ft...

IT is not the basic rate of course.. simplest tile starts from re.45..

Tiles are the best these days in terms of maintenance..

    Hi Sudha,

I am assuming your builder is giving for Rs.50 per sft. Even if he gets a very good discount on the tiles, i dont think you will get good quality tiles for that price. To give you a rough idea, we got ceramic bathroom wall tiles for Rs.75 per sq ft 5 years back.

Ask him what brand of tiles is he using and what is the dimension of the tiles. Builders try to use local brands and say they have the same quality as good brands. 2x2ft (4 sq ft) vitrified tiles give a good look to the floor than 1x1 ft tiles.

Please don`t opt for marble. If it gets stained it should not be cleaned with stain remover liquids. It spoils the texture. If the marble is original it should be cleaned with a stone called amri which is available in Rajasthan. Moreover during rainy seasons the marble floor becomes very chill. Better go for marbonite or tiles. They are easy to clean.

Marbonite is just a brand name, made by HR Johnson. They are vitrified tiles and have no relation to marble.

RAK, Kajaria, Nitco, Johnson are the major vitrified manufacturers.

High quality Imported marble would start at 400/sqft and are very hard to maintain.
