Hello Friends, My mother-in-law is not well. she cannot eat solid food. this is from past sixteen years. But for the last four years she is suffering a lot. Her teeth are falling off one by one and now all she eats are fruit juices, complan or health drinks, kanji. Even rice, she grinds in mixie and drinks but with great difficulty one glass is what she can drink. We went to doctor who says that she has no problem but even then this is not helping. I want to give her more options to eat. I cannot further see her cry that she is hungry. Please help me by suggesting me dishes along with the recipies. I hope i told all the things, the dish that she can eat should be like a juice but should keep her healthy and she should not feel that she is hungry. (because it is painful when someone says that they are hungry and we cannot do anything). Recently i prepared apple halwa (grinding apple) which she liked and the first time she ate a sweet after so many years. Please suggest me with dishes. Thank you in advance
Hi shreyas Its so heartening to see ur post, very true ,we can't keep quiet when they are in hungry, I feel any protein powder drink can keep her to maintain her stamina for long time , regards sudha
Thank you sudha suresh for your reply. I forgot to mention that in my post. She is only 30 KG in weight. Protein powders is making her lose more weight hence we stopped that.
Sandhya, Hope you get the right suggestion for recipes from others here. As Sudha mentioned, its heartening to read your post. Your warmth and concern towards your MIL is so obvious in it. My prayers and best wishes, dear. Will come back, if I can suggest something to you. Bye
Sandhya, 16 years is quite a long time to suffer like this. Take her to a good dentist. Generally in such cases, the dentist removes the remaining fragile teeth and gives a full set of dentures. It might take some time (about 1 month) for her gums to get used to them but it is worth it. Regarding her hunger, if she is only able to have liquid diet, she should increase the frequency of her food intake. Try giving her something every 2 hours. You can try some of these: 1. Different types of porridges like oatmeal, ragi etc. Make it of a more runny consistency than regular porridge. 2. Give her milk shakes like banana, apple etc. They are filling and feel like a whole meal. 3. Mix idly with rasam or thin sambar. I am not aware of the reasons behind not going for dentures or increasing the frquency of her food intake but if this continues for a long time, she might develop further complications due to starvation and malnutrition. So i would suggest you to act quickly.
her health condition.. her weight is 30 kg... her hemoglobin count is always oscillating between 4 and 6. We have to wait until all the teeth fall down because we cannot pull out the remaining few teeth (for the fear that she may not stop bleeding)... I know that its only problems that is there at all directions, and one more main thing is that we are brahmins.. strictly vegetarian.. but even then please try to help me
Dear Orion, as of now she is having milk shakes, juices and two different types of kanji. (Oats and other pulses put together)... but apart from these, even idly she cannot eat... she grinds them in mixie. Rice with sambar she grinds in mixie and drinks it... But actually speaking, now she is fed up with the liquid diets and is not satisfactory now.... hence i want more options... I found urad dhal kali from internet
Please add butter/ghee to dishes and also egg (meat would be good but maybe vegetarian). You need to get up her calorie intake and fats are good for that and also they provide satiety. You also need to be sure to increase proteins. Are you giving any iron supplements or multivitamins? Try making this recipe and give her as much as she wants....it is old recuperative from here. BAKED EGG CUSTARD IN MICROWAVE Printed from COOKS.COM <hr noShade=""> □ 1 1/2 c. milk (1 cup= 250ml) Put into bowl. Heat on high 2-4 minutes (hot, but not boiling). Blend and add to: □ 1/4 c. sugar □ 1/8 tsp. salt □ 1 tsp. vanilla □ 3 eggs, slightly beaten Stir mix into milk with whisk. Pour into 4 custard cups. Sprinkle with nutmeg and microwave at 50% power (medium) 6-10 minutes. By then, it is set (not watery anymore) and you can put into refrigerator for chill. Has the doctor indicated a blood transfusion for her? Have you gotten a second opinion on her condition?
