Sustainable Living (a meaningful life away from mad rush)

:hiyaHi,

Long time I have been here.Was kind of too much stuck in routines of life.Wanted to talk out a thought that has been with me a for quite a long time and I know the views that I would get from this platform will be priceless.

Being born in a metro, where life run along with the ticking clock, last 35 years just passed away.If I look back now,pretty soon.Have I enjoyed it not sure.Studies, work, kids all just happened and there I was waiting for next goal to be achieved.But last one year, I have this idea in my mind to go back to simple life where I would live each day.I happened to learn about places like Auroville and many other communities across the globe who come together and create a world of there own.Life with little needs ,expectation lots of happiness.Definition for happiness is different for different individual but having lived a city life I really feel sad for my kids who are pressurized for their performance at a time where they need to lead a life of free bird and explore things its a spoon fed life that all of us are forced to give them.

I really want to cut out of this vicious cycle and live life in its most natural way that is meant to be lived in.I need a feedback from people who feel the same way.

Looks like you are analysing yourself from within

This is tendency of human nature...People from metros wants to return to calm and peaceful small towns.
But people in village and small towns are moving out of their nest ....to join mad rush.

But I guess transistion from being busy to calm life is not easy!

Good to see your reply.I guess what you say is right.But I am very serious about the same not sure as so to how to start of.Wanted to talk out to people who have done the same infact was looking for some advice from this platform.

Lakshmi,

I see this interest in many including my husband. but it is more when you have not experienced that calm village life. it is the picture perfect movies and the villages and the houses potrayed in them that makes us yearn for one.

I love those spacious houses with the thinnai, muttram and everything, but once you are used to the bustle of the cities, it is not so easy..with the health issues that come in the later years..with the kids moving out to cities..

But yes it is feasible to start looking to this project if there are like minded people who can help each other. you can have this in a commutable distance from the city it could work.. a farm house like..but what defines commutable distance and where in the city will we get this kind of place.

We did make some plans for the same..and maybe someday will venture too..but the sad part was when we tried to buy land in the places that we were comfortable, they have jumped more than 10 times than the last known rates...

Thanks Shanvi for your feedback.I know that having lead a city life one gets used to lots of comforts of modern days life so returning back to a typical village life would be rather very difficult.So that is why the idea of forming a community of like minded people coming together and sarting up something that would strike the right balance.Many places across the globe have such community few in India as well.

I have started to look around I know the dream is in a very very nascent stage but would like to give a shot.

It just takes you a moment to spin the curd and get the whey ...isn't it! :thumbsup Great post!
It might be a bit early in life for me to consider this option, but my dream of a retired life is something in lines with Laxmiji's thought! A nice clean small house, surrounded with lot of trees and flowers. My bedroom should open into some simple flowers, my fav being jasmines! He...he...wake up late in the morning (no alarm to be scared off), read a good book with a good cup of tea :coffee(... may be without sugar!)....and so on...and on...and on...:cheers
But practically, its easier said than done. In a few weeks time boredom might creep in, specially for people used to the energy of the city! A kind of monotony!...even with these hightech projects which promise all amenities we have to be a bit careful about the whole process, the kind of neighbours, the accessibility for our kins to visit us etc. ect.
A good idea will be to go in for projects which are already occupied.Meet a few residents there, and try to get a clue of their mind set!

I think the concept is slowly catching in coimbatore and chennai. and i also come across discussions of people thinking of starting one by themselves..serene acres is one such. and one of my friends goes gaga over their retirement community in coimbatore..and i sometimes feel i missed the bus, should have hopped earlier..
I wish you all the best that you get your dream come true.

Mega, I need to ask my husband to write about his dream home here sometime., then you will think all that you are discussing is very simple and achievable. he thinks of his own farming activities to sustain himself and the pictures he presents with his views and ideas tempts you so much, but getting that type of land and committed people to help you is not a easy job.

While mine is to have a courtyard with fragrant flowering shrubs around and a garden patch to satisfy that green thumb of mine. i wish to have my favorite book, a cup of coffee on my favorite swing..

but as you say in all the communities again neighbours and like minded people is a 50-50 possibilities..and i shudder to think of ending up with someone i don't gel with but have live neighbours for the rest of my life.

I wish you have your dream fulfilled.

Yes Shanvi the concept is been adopted by many.But I donot want to indulge in it post retirement when all the ailing starts and one hardly enjoys life.My concept is more like that of what you say of ur husbands.Its not just having a kitchen garden around but the whole means of living around.One may call it as craziness but I nowadays literally find time to make my self updated with the techniques of farming,alternative source of energy a little bit of construction concepts,food storage,animal rearing and few more.If such a community need to be started lot of life skills need to be harnessed and also will not be few months activity but few years before things streamline.
Its really nice to talk out thoughts that was within me.Thanks Shanvi and Mega for your feedback thanks a lot.

You might want to look at these interesting projects.

Rakindo, a joint venture between Rakeen, owned by the Government of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE is investing Rs 1,000 crore on the integrated 1,000-acre township project.

Rakindo Developers is developing Kovai Hills', an integrated township at Kovaipudur near the city. The launch of the project is planned for end-2011.

Rakindo has also launched its budget apartment project Orchids' at Kovaipudur. It is offering flats with 650-1600 sqft space. The phase-1 of the project, which would have 300 units, has been fully booked and would be ready for delivery by 2012.

One of my relative has taken a place and it was very scenic and beautiful surrounding. If you travel nearby you will find good places outside as well.
