After surviving on porridge and bread for the past ten days....shakehead. courtesy viral fever..:thumbsdown, I was a back to normal or rather almost normal this afternoon....:)

Had some dhal rice for lunch this afternoon......and the drooly - devil in me started wagging her tail.....:crazy..or rather tongue....
    Pickles......:drool...Oh!!! how I love them....!!!

I have jars and jars of Pickles in my kitchen -cabinet....some store-bought...and some made by me......

Yes, I love to make pickles and can make decent pickles too.....:thumbsup...

I think you remember the high-quality standards of my DH...which I have shared with you in my previous posts...

I picked the jar of lime-pickle......and I relished my dhal rice......

The pickle tickled my gray-cells......She was telling me a Philosophy.....

    The Pickle Philosophy........:spin

For a pickle, to be ready and handy at the kitchen -shelf....,
at any point of the year.....,
    to make meals delightful.....,
to help us out in emergencies......,
to make us brag about our pickle making skills.....,

The lime should be picked from the tree at the right time.....

We should select only the best from the lot..... wrestling with the vendor...bargain....and bring them home.....at the right time....

We should be free of any other commitments....free from other enticing temptations like gossiping,browsing,shopping.....and wash and cut the limes and salt them....at the right time......

We should be free from the interfering visits of our Rain-God or Vayu-God...who brings dust and debris as a gift to our terrace or balcony.....Sun-God should favor us...with the right sunshine.....for the pickles to dry...at the right time....

We should safe-guard the cut, salted drying lime from the brats...tsk.at the right time...

We should check regularly and get the pickle ready .....with all the ingredients at the correct proportion...at the right time....

We should store the pickle properly...and handle it carefully...at the right time....

My dear lime pickle.....did jobs more than she was assigned to.....

Not only giving a work-out to my taste-buds who were in the depth of despair due to the bland porridge....she gave me a work-out for my gray-cells too.....reminding me of this quote.....

A dream doesn't become reality through magic.....
    it takes sweat.....,
    determination...... and hard work......

Be it preparing pickles or a mammoth task....

What is needed is proper planning and doing what is to be done at the right time , with out letting laziness and other diversions to ride on us....

I thanked my "Pickle Guruji" for the wisdom.....

    What say friends.....:):hide:...?!?!

    Wow Bhargavi!
    From Pickles to Philosophy!
    What a range!

Let me be honest - the philosophy you tried to teach me did not stick to my brain at all,:bonk but the imaginary taste of the pickle is there in my tongue, in my imagination, so much so, that I want to run to my kitchen and take teaspoonof lemon pickle and savour it slowly, puckering at the sourness, smacking at the saltiness, and reaching for a glass of cold water at its spiciness!

Have you tasted potato chpis with lemon pickle? its delicious.:thumbsup try it!

Curd rice and pickle:hatsoff..Is there any equivalent to this? Not at all.

Oohh! It is bedtime for me, so I am going to have sweet, no salty-sour-spicy dreams tonight!

I am a bit upset that you should spoil a lovely pickle thread with serious philosophy Bhargavi.:) You know, food I love...philosophy...????mmmm???..:hide:

Lovely thread.:cheers enjoyed it. hope you are out of your fever now. Take care.

    Hi bhargs,

Hope you are feeling well now. I know that feeling.the minute I recover from these fever attacks I want to eat something hot and spicy(usually mine is veg biryani) as if to compensate for the few days lost.:)

Wowww! I never knew there was so much to pickle making.not a great fan of pickles. You sound just like my mother admonishing me for my impatience. I always like to finish my kitchen work at one go and she says certain dishes call for ones full attention and patience so they are not for me :hide:

    Hi Bhargavi,

Wow, from mouth watering pickles to brain tickling philosophy eh????? I know that feeling - being on a (physical) imposed bland diet (which brinks on starvation) for a few days, kindling hopes of some real weight loss :)biglaugh), only to be dragged out by the same physical cravings and wicked taste buds to the kitchen to let loose on all the pickle jars and "savouriest" stuff at the first signs of recovery (do I see all that weight flying out of the pickle jars with wings only to settle to happily at the wrong places

Hope you are doing better now.

    Hi Knbg

That was a nice post on pickles.....I know there is so much pains to make the pickle my mom does it and I just fill in my jar and enjoy it[IMG]
I only like to make chill pickle which is very easy and simple. And offcourse all the instant pickles just amke and consume them.
When you already enjoyed the pickle that means you are perfectly fine, now will not ask how you are feeling[IMG]
    Enjoyed the picklely post...hehe

Bhargavi dear your tittle brought me here because I am very fond of pickles. First thing I like to serve in my plate is pickles and have it with sambhar rice, rasam rice and also with curd rice. If nothing is there for dosa then I have it with pickle.

You know I was also down with viral fever since last wednesday evening. Only since two days have some taste in the mouth. My dh is going for Navangam in the temple . So I have to cook for myself only make some bhaji with chapathi for him.

A dream doesn't become reality through magic.....

So true. Now this is vitamin for me from you. I am not fully ok and your post gave me strength. I am just waiting when I will be fully ok.
