What is the value of happiness ?
Happiness is a state of mind and we keep accumulating things like mobile phones, cameras, DVDs, VCDs ,ipod, cars, digital instruments just for the heck of it. How many can recall when was the last time one has used them, how often and how useful they are now?
We are not content with what we have. unless and until we acquire the things we do not have. The exchange mela offer comes handy to give and pay more to buy a better one. As long as the offer is alive our longings also survive. Who's wrong and what is wrong and where?
Whether it's car, PC, laptop, cell phones and other gadgets we would like to flaunt the recent in the market. Do we need it really, can we do with the basic ones, or is it worth going for the up gradation of gadgets? How many of us think with sense of their utility?

If a phone is just for contacts in emergencies why do we have to go for the costly ones when we can very well do with the simple ones? How many are happy with the limited resources and simple gadgets? All cannot be living in the lap of luxury all the time.

A wrist watch is to see the time and the basic one would do with the minimum cost rather than go for the costlier one. What is its purpose? An ordinary TV would do instead of a plasma one.
The more one goes towards these gadgets they become 'stay connected' mortals with not much knowledge about things happening around them. more money on gadgets and less time for people. Everyone has to spend some good quality time with family members as stress busters, it is essential in the current stressed life.
The mirage of chasing the unwanted bubbles makes one to have less happiness. There is no guarantee that tomorrow you will be happy.
Happiness lost is gone , a day gone is gone out of hands.
What is the use of these gadgets when you do not have anyone to talk to or spend time with you? The luxurious life will not replace the human touch in your life.Try to live for being happy.
Go in search of the value of happiness around you.

    Hello MK
Gone are those days where people think that you get happiness without these gadgets. In return people feel sad if they don't have these gadgets. Everyone wants the latest.
You are right The luxurious life will not replace the human touch in your life,
But what garantee is there with this human touch you will get the happiness.......
You will behave like the human will the person in front of you behaves the same way???
at least with these gadgets you can be yourself. Everything is replaced even the happiness. Now a days people get happiness in different ways

    Dear mathangikkumar,

Let me take a deep breath ..we understand what you are saying and respect your stance on this. I often find this austerity life that one implores fellow beings to follow little befuddling. To tell you the truth, I need to sheepishly admit that IT DOES MAKE ME HAPPY when I buy a newer version of something. It does make me work for it, realize my dream and finally GET IT. I know it is all materialistic but here the means justify the end. There is tremendous joy, excitement and euphoria when you work towards it. I would love to watch my favourite TV programs on the plasma screen to experience better visuals. I would love to play around with my latest iPhone and awe at the sophisticated technology that ballooned in less than a decade. I would love to own the latest software and tools that help me keep in touch with my parents over skype and marvel at the small cost I am paying for such bounty happiness.

Of course these are all happy moments not because they are expensive but because they are fulfilling. If I was so self-satisfied with what I had I would never have known what I am capable of having. Not many realize but I feel the greatest happiness is not an end point one reaches but the very pursuit of it makes it worth while and enjoyable to the core.

Not really, most of them are very grounded and understand the difference between out-of-reach and out-of-sight.

Some demand happiness, some seek happiness; some do find happiness in owing things, others in chasing them but the most important being - what works best for you.

    Interesting post

Material things may not give lasting happiness but it can certainly keep us comfortable even in our misery :)

Greed and love for material things has its good points.... it keeps us motivated, gives us impetus to strive for better things.. and when we achieve our set goal, we push our goals further... and the satisfaction of achievement manifests itself in material things...and gives proof of our success and adds to our self-worth and esteem.....desire is important for growth. Contentment with our lot often leads to stagnation. Happiness comes in having realistic expectations and balancing between what we have and our desires. Most of us find it difficult to achieve that realistic balance....our expectations are sky high and we dont have the wherewithall to fulfill those expectations.

There is no set formula for happiness in life.... it is a string of moments ...it is a state of mind that depends on how we see different events in our lives and what we want from our life.
