Yet another interview is over this weekend and I got the same result. They call you before a week for it. You take all those required documents with you and reach there on time.I dont want to give any wrong impression about my punctuality.Shouldering an experience of 3 yrs old professional and working in a reputed firm, I entered the interview arena through lift and i was left agaped by seeing so many candidates waiting for their turn after i come out of lift:bowdown. I wonder when will my turn come. One thing which i dont like about the mass interview is the general wait period of 2-3 hours of time. I cant even listen to any songs on my mobile or go out for a tea with the fear of not responding when my name is being called.

With the tiredness as a prize for waiting, I entered the interview room when my name was called after 3hrs. I wished(cursed like hell in my mind:rant) the interviewer with a big smile on face accompanied with firm handshake. It's natural for a interviewer to be high on expectation by seeing my profile and working background. But in reality, I know how quantitatively and qualitatively work done by me. They go beyond that and ask the questions. Inturn they receive a surprise package of my silly and childish kind of answers. I wonder where my experience is gone? why i didnot answered that simple question? I come out with a pale face from the room after listening to the words "It was nice talking to you. We will get back to you".I know you dumb people that you will never get back to me:spin. But the fear of rejection phobia no more haunts me which troubled me a lot when i was fresher, because of the existing job now in my hand. I can go back to my work from next day.

It was time for me to reach home as early as possible to have some rest. One good thing about being in hyderabad is the presence of shared autos(8 seater) and cabs. It saves a lot of money. I boarded one auto and it moved further. When the autowala stopped at the next junction,an lady in her mid twenties entered the seating arena and sat exactly opposite to me.The calmness, innocence and serenity of her face really made me to look at her face as many times as possible. The tiredness of the whole interview process was shutting down my eyes at sporadic intervals of time, but this pretty face made me to blink as many times as possible to keep myself awake:coffee. It took me more than two minutes to realize that her face resembled to anushka sharma(heroine from band bajaa baraat hindi movie). She had not tied her hairs with a clip or a band due to which they were continuosly floating in air . She tried her best to grab and keep them in a bay,but her efforts were really not strong enough to fight against the natural rush of air. That particular moment is really a feast to camera lens and every aspiring or immature photographers like me look for .I was missing my camera very badly. Though i had a mobile camera, it was not fair enough on my part to take her snap without her consent:hide:.At the same time i was really afraid of staring at that lady for a longer duration as it may invite some trouble for me:drowning. To avoid that I started looking at the traffic on right side for some time and switched to left side when my neck was paining. It looked as if I am watching any tennis match. I wanted to end this kind of war being played silently by both of my eyes and was glad that my stop came. A ten rupee note in my shirt pocket helped me to pay that autowala quickly. While i was about to cross the road to reach the other end, she stopped me and asked "Can u pls tell me where this chennai shopping mall is..??" I was quick to reply an answer for her question which was located at diagonally opposite to the place where we stood. She Thanked me with a broad smile and hurriedly crossed the road. She was far enough to hear "You are welcome" from my end.

After reaching my home, I avoided tea which inturn will kill my sleepy nature, but not the tiredness. A Complete three hours of sleep in the after noon made me rejuvenated. I was upset with the way the interview has gone, But was glad that it was a beautiful failure at the end:thumbsup

    Dear HS
A candid autobiography! You have written it with such feeling that it was not difficult to relate to it particularly because I belong to your gender! This post of yours is in two distinct parts. The first one is all about the frustration a man faces when he attends an interview. An interview is one where the interviewers specialise in asking questions about which we may have absolutely no clue. So interviews are not about knowing the answers of everything that is asked. It is about how we manage our ignorance or lack of information. As an officer of SBI, I have faced several interviews as I worked my way up. This is an institution that believes in conducting an interview even if we have to be moved from the first floor to the second floor! You have summed it up so well about what happens in these interviews. Besides having undergone these interviews, I have also conducted a number of interviews.

Interviews are not just to evaluate a person's knowledge of a given subject. It is also meant to evaluate the level of our confidence, our resourcefulness and crisis management ability. All these can be judged only if they ask you tough questions for which very few will know the answers. If you had seen the James Bond movie 'Casino Royale', you would understand what I mean. In the poker game involving a stake of over millions of dollars, Daniel Craig as James Bond often bluffs his way to winning with a weak hand. This is precisely how interviews have to be tackled.

Coming to your second part, it is so very interesting. What surprises me is that young men have remained unchanged even after a lapse of five decades. In saying so, I am talking about my own experience. So many times, ( I have lost the count really), a pretty face never failed to disturb me to the root of my very being. I would imagine that this was the girl that I was waiting for all my life until I met the next pretty face. Incidentally, I use the word pretty in a very generic way and to be honest with you, I had never come across a girl who was not pretty to my eyes! The opiate effect of these pretty faces has helped me to survive many agonies of my life like it did in your case after the debacle in the interview! Many a time I had walked back home like a zombie after seeing a pretty face not knowing where I was headed to initially!

It is a great pity that this phase of life is a very short lived one and when we do outgrow it, we dart into the nearest dark alley if we encounter what was once a pretty face but now a strong contender for the role of Cruella De Vil!

A good piece of writing HS. I enjoyed it to the hilt!
    Sri

Very nice write up HS. Never mind the interview. At least there was a pretty sight to compensate the disappointment. Interviews may and interviews may go. You will eventually get what you are seeking. But really happiness lies in enjoying the moment. :) Good luck.

    Dear Sachitananda,
Its vague on my luck that i come across such pretty sight only when my mind is preoccupied with some mundane or bad event. I wish such thing happens me at regular intervals of life to prevent my mind falling into the well of unwell. Thanks for ur good wishes. let the interview goto hell...!!

    Dear Cheeniya,

U have a tons of experience in such kind of interviews being attended or even conducted. This would give u a picture of what both the parties are thinking at one particular point of time. Let my mind, my attitude change towards such kind of viewing internally by an interviewer. It may take few more years for such a change to occur in me.
As per my second part, Young men remained unchanged not just 5 decades, but centuries i guess. Its good that the opiate effect of these pretty faces keep you away from agonies of life.I agree with the fact that such incidents span for short term, but linger in our memories for a longer period of time..Thank u for ur encouraging words....!!!

    Dear HS

A nice write up. Though you were upset with the interview atleast you had a beautiful sight. All the best in the future interviews. Luckily I did not have to attend much interviews because I was working in Hyderabad for two years and then when I cam eto Bombay with the recommendation of my boss in Hyderabad got a job in Bombay where I worked for 36 years. Only interview I had later was for promotion.

    Dear Soumedh,
8seater autos here are known as tam tam autos
Thank u for ur warm wishes and i hope next time i have a different kind of encounter(may result in brickbat or bouquets).

    Iyerviji Ma'm,
Good to know that you were based in hyd in past.It seems that you were much content and happy with the nature of the job you were doing and thats the reason you hardly faced any interview. Working for 36 yrs continuosly for the same organization is not an easy task. Only a dedicated person like you can handle such a gigantic responsibility.I wish i had the same quality in the job i do.
By the way, thank you for your warm wishes..
