    Hi Everybody,

We are Indians expecting our baby in Dec 2006. We don't have any plans of settling down in US and intend to return back to India in 2yrs time.

I'm concerned about the kids educational expenses in India since he/she will be an US citizen. Is there a way out or should we pay a different fee in comparison to Indian born children?

We still have time to decide whether we want our child to be born in India or US. Any suggestions on this issue are welcome.

Parents with US born kids who have moved to India please answer.

    Thanks in Advance,
    Leo

    Education Expenses

    Hi Leo,

Congrats on the new arrival. I do not think you have to worry if your child is born here. In India, there is no separate fee for NRI chldren. All Indian schools will charge the same that they charge for Indian kids. If you choose to send your child to one of the International schools run by American/British concerns, then the fees will be in Dollars. I was looking into this for both my kids ( we are planning to move next year) . So not to worry and have a safe and healthy pregnancy.

Oh and if you do decide to have your child here, you can apply for the dual citizen ship with the Indian embassy. You will get that within three months and then there should be no problems at all.

    Re: Education Expenses

    Hi,

I heard that the dual citizenship is not available now. Different people are giving different opinions.

Kindly clarify if my son who was born in US (2005) is elegible for OCI/Indian Citizenship/Indian Passport.

    Thank you for you help

    Regards
    J Jebafranklin

    hi Jebafranklin,

What we get now is OCI-overseas citizen of India, which is not Dual citizenship. Us and India do not allow DC.
If your child was born in 2005 you can get OCI only if either one of the parents is a citizen of America.

Check out this website India Consulate New York, USA Indian Visa Passport information. or you can check out any other consulates of India websites in other cities.

    Jothi.

    Hi all,

I read this thread and would like to post my queries here.

We live here in US for last 7yrs. Now we'd like to relocate to India. So as a first step we sent our first son to India who is living with my parents. For his school admission he is being asked for 'community certificate'. I should mention that my son is born in US and has a US passport/PIO card.

How to get community certificate for my son born in US? My community certificate which I got in my childhood has details about my B'day and birthplace in India.

Has anybody gone thro' this situation

    Please help

    Hi Leo,

I hope yiu and your family are good. I am in USA on H1 visa with my wife here. We are expecting our baby to born in early 2014.

I have gone thorugh many forums/articles on internet on pros & cons of having baby born in USA to indian parent. We dont have long term plan for USA and will return back to India in 2-3 years.

I have many question throgh which you might have already gone though regarding

    (1) citizenship of my kid
    (2) His future schooling and college education in India
    (3) his opportunity for employment in India
    (4) obtain US PP or Indian PP for child after birth in USA
    and etc etc.

Please let me know your experience with this situation. We still have time to decide birth place for our baby.

Your help would be highly appreciated.

    Awaiting your reply.

    Thanks,
    Nishant
