I soaked up oil using paper towels. Then, spread baking soda over the entire area to soak up the oil and then sprayed vinegar. I mopped it all up with paper towels. Used dish detergent on a wet scotch-brite to scrub the floor. Wiped it with a dry cloth, a wet cloth, and a dry cloth again, (and repeat as required) until the suds were gone. Last, as an added measure, sprayed the floor with Seventh Generation all-purpose cleaner, let it sit for several minutes, then mopped it up.

PS: I had a whole bottle of newly bought oil crash right in the doorway. Thus, the number of steps. You could start with the detergent. Don't use too much, or you'll have yourself a slippery sudsy floor, instead. HTH!

    hi

when large quantity of oil spills first best thing to do is

put flour on it to cover the entire area where oil is spilled. Immdly it will soak all the oil and later of scrub with detergent. it is more easier like this.

I agree with Radhika. Flour works fine for this. Until the oil is there I keep putting flour on it to soak up the spill.Let the flour sit for 1/2 hr and then gather the flour. You can try it. I prefer wheat flour or rice flour. It works like a charm and you wont even see traces of oil later.Good Luck.

Lucy, Spreading rice flour on the places where oil has spilt does work and is not a messy job.

It works. Usually where I store Oil to put Tadka in that container by the time it gets empty is too sticky due to occassional oil spills. So what I do to clean is add plenty of flour and remove the stickiness and then wash it with dishwashing liquid.. Hence I know.
I discovered this by accident . I was kneading Chapathi dough and little oil spilled from oil container. So to gather the oil I put some dry wheat flour becoz I was making chapathi dough. Wudnt have done it otherwise. It worked and oil was sucked into flour.I have been doing it and it works like a charm. Try it. Good Luck.

Well, I used the paper or dry cotton towels which quickly absorb the oil. Another thing is that I use the water which is include the some drop of the bleaching which is helpful to clean and neat the floor.
