hi 2 all, my mom is doing this pooja for long time. she do this in simple method. get up early in morning . have head bath, she do fasting for whole day then in evening she light the lamp pray to god . for naivedhyam she kept paalum pazhamum.she finish the fasting with milk & fruit.she give that to all in our house full moon partha piragu sapduvanga. she told that this pooja gives us ishwaryam good health for family & for childs study.
for pournami, I do Sathyanarayana pooja. you get the book in Giri trading agencies- it has got all the necessary requirements and steps to be followed, I follow them. you can do it in the early morning or the sandhya evening. For prasadham, i prepare wheat flour-sugar-elachi mixture and broken wheat (Samba rava) halwa. once in 3 or 6 months I invite my friends and relatives for feast. so far i have not undergone fasting, but it is better to do.
I have recently started doing Goddes lalitha poola on Purnimas. On full moon day, I take headbath in the mornng, light a lamp, recite lalitha sahasranamam, fast during the day. In the evening, I take bath again, light a lamp again and recite Lalitha sahasranamam, looking at the moon through the window and offer kheer to goddess lalitha.
Hi Shankari, Satyanarayana pooja is done on Lord Narayana. Better to do on Full moon day, but ok to do on Mondays (as that day is for the moon) and New moon day too. Should do in the twilight evening of around 6 or 7 PM. You need to prepare 3 kalashas (coconut placed on top of a pot) - one for Lord Ganesha, one for Lord Indra and one for Lord Satyanarayana. And you place Goddess Lakshmi's picture/idol. You also place 'navadhaniyams' (9 pulses) and corresponding color cloths and flowers. Offering can be large scale or some mere wheat flour mixed in sugar and ghee. Better to give annadhanam on the day. The pooja starts with praying Lord Ganesha; then Lord Indira and then the Navagrahams; then do the pooja for Lord Sathyanarayana. Then you pray Goddess Mahalakshmi in flowers or kum kum. Finally you have to read the Story (5 chapters) which is very essential. One should never ignore the offering prasadams and should eat them without fail. You need to get the book 'Sathyanarayana Pooja' so that it contains the relevant slokas and further story. If you are chennai, can get in giri trading or any other book shop. hope this helps!
I hope doing Lalitha Sahasranamam parayanam or pooja is also good on Pournamis. I recite Lalitha Sahasrnamam and do some neivedhyam. I think some people do Satyanarayana Pooja in a large scale also on Pounrami days. You can offer kesari as neivedyam for Satyanarayana pooja. But I have not done this pooja.
