    Hi ILites,
I have been a silent reader so far, deriving strenth, knowledge and faith from all your postings. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, views and feelings - it gives consolation to others like me that I am not alone in my TTC struggle.

    My background:
Married for more than 6 years (started trying from Jan09 though).
Had a laproscopy in May09 - 1 tube was blocked -this was corrected. Had adhesions near one ovary - adhesions were removed, had cysts on my ovary - had ovarian drilling done (Dr concluded I had PCOS), had polyps in my uterus - those were removed. It was also concluded that I had endometriotic spots on one of my ovaries. I am overweight as well.

Its been a year since and we have still not conceived. Have tried one cycle of IUI with no success and would like to switch doctors. Am currently consulting a general Gynaec and would like to switch to a fertility specialist to see if that could help.

I know that Dr.Geetha Haripriya (Prashanth Hospital, Chetpet, Chennai) has been discussed in the past on this forum. However I am kinda swaying between Dr.Geetha Haripriya and Dr.Samundi Sankari (Srushti Clinic, Ramapuram, Chennai). Both the doctors have been recommended indirectly and thefore would appreciate any inputs/feedback based on the following.
1.Personal attention (how much time does the Dr spend in answering questions and explaining procedures and assuring the patient, does she personally oversee all treatments like IUI and IVF, is she available in person for consultations)
    2. Systematic diagnosis (does she actually conduct a series of tests like blood, HSG, laproscopy, etc. to diagnose the problem before deciding on path of action)
    3. Success rate (how many patients are successful)
    4. Facilities available in the clinic (does the clinic have all facilities available for scanning, blood tests, IUI and IVF within the hospital?)

Sorry about the long thread and thanks for your patience.

Thanks a lot for that response. I hope everything works out well for you soon.
Yes, I need to act quick. I am still trying to decide on a doctor to consult before I jump in. Problem is, changing doctors means an entire relationship building again (which funnily enough only seems to happen with time when it comes to doctors :)) and I would like to make up my mind with all info available before I start with either of the doctors mentioned so that I can stick on even when the going gets tough.
Suggestions on any other doctors will be a blessing as well ....

    Hi Amrita,

Hope you are doing great. I was not able to come online for a long time. Anyways what have you decided about the treatment and your Dr.

I would like to comment about both the doctors whom I've consulted with.

1.For Personal attention : Dr Samundi is very good. I can bet you wont get any kind of personal attention at Dr Geetha's Clinic. We used to stay till 1 in the night and the Dr would consult us for not more than 5 mins with most of our queries unanswered. Im not an Medical graduate, Dr's need to know that and make sure her patient is relieved from the pain they ve inside. If it is personal attention i would give 9/10 for Dr Samundi Sankari. She is very down to earth, takes time to explain and on the top she always has a smiling face. She gave me a lot, a lot, a lot of positive support.

    2. Systematic diagnosis: Dr Samundi dint run any hormone tests as it was only a month old. I was prescribed one month of medications after which she started me an IVF protocol. Before starting they ran necessary tests. I cant say my opinion on this because doctors are different and their diagnosis differs completely.

    3. Success rate: Srushti claims more than 50% success rate. I don’t know abt Dr Geetha. But heard her success rates have come down due to big crowd. It is hard to maintain good success rates when you do all together. I cant comment on this as professionals know much better.

    4. Facilities: Dr Samundi has shown my husband all the facilities at their hospital. He was able to see all the procedure through a cam.

I have taken a lot of time to explain you in detail about the Doctors. I hope It will be useful for you. All I can say is Personal touch is very important for any cure. You need to see where you will get it. Like me thousands have benefited and Im one among the few who has come forward to share my experience on indusladies. First I would like to thank the forum for this initiation.

I would like to conclude that for me Dr Samundi Sankari is one gem of a person when it comes to personal attention and perfect specialist when it comes to treatment.

    Dear Amrita,

Hope you have a good news to share with us. I know im replying you late. But its ok as our discussion will atleast help another woman like us to choose a good facility. I got treated by Dr Samundi and she is very sweet dr. Her approach was very professional and very friendly. my sister is also getting consulted by her. I wd recommend srushti if you are still looking for a good fertility specialist. Many friends you opted IVF in India have chosen srushti. Good luck amrita.

This reply is probably very late. But just wanted to put it out there for any IL women seeking advice.
I was in Chennai for a year during which time visited many hospitals. One of them was Dr. Geetha Haripriya at Prashant Medical.

First of all the waiting periods are terrible. There is no proper appointment or number system. Priorities are given to patients who are NRI's and local patients are made to wait for hours on end without even letting them know correctly how many patients are before them.

Secondly - I was asked to a million tests the first time including HIV, Herpes and many other STD's.

Thirdly - She accepts the consultation fee in cash in her hand for which we get no reciept.

Finally - I have lost a tube before due to Ectopic pregnancy and I was asked to do an HSG to determine the viability of the remaining tube. After the test was done, I took the reports to the doctor and just looking at the test summary (she didnt even study the Xray) she told me i had an Arcuate Uterus and we will have to operate on it to correct it. Believe it or not, her next question was where my husband works and what he does. Next she said it will cost around 30,000 rs and if we can afford that. We were still in shock to hear about a surgery and my husband said yes. She immediately wrote something in a paper asked to give to her assistant outside who will fill the forms for the surgery and that we could do the surgery in a day.

We were still reeling from the shock and filled the forms. But after we left the hospital, I was in 2 minds. I didnt want to do a surgery yet again. We decided to get a second opinion and visited another doctor over the next week who studying all the reports assured me a surgery was not at all required.

After that incident I have shown the same report to various doctors in different countries and believe me, no one has suggested I do a surgery.

This incident really put me away from Prashant Hospital which, in my opinion, doesnt have any humanitarian approach but is just hell bent on making money.

This incident happened over 2 years ago.. but i doubt if the situation has changed much.

Just a warning to fellow sufferers.
